The story

from the vineyard

Heritage and traditions of our vineyard in Champagne

The history of our vineyard in Champagne begins in the south of the Marne, a region where, in the 1960s, many champagne vines were abandoned, although located on land classified as Champagne appellation. It is in this context that the founder of the Champagne house Pierre Launay, after his military service, began his career as a worker for winegrowers in the region. Driven by a passion for viticulture and a keen sense of the potential of the vines, he bought a plot of vineyard, then another, thus laying the foundations of our current operation. This vision and determination have been the driving force behind our growth and success. By recognizing the hidden value of neglected land and investing in these Champagne vines, he not only revitalized the terroir but also laid the foundation stones of a lasting family legacy.

The birth of the Champagne Pierre Launay house

The year 1972 remains a key moment, marking the installation of our first press – a giant step forward in our quest for excellence. This significant advance paved the way for an even more memorable event for our Champagne vineyard: in 1973, the very first bottle stamped Champagne Pierre Launay was released. This period coincided with a meteoric expansion of the “Champagne” appellation, a propitious context to launch such a project.

Producing that first bottle was not only the fulfillment of an ambitious dream, it was also the beginning of a family legacy that continues to grow and prosper. This step also symbolized our commitment to perpetuate and enrich Champagne traditions.

Since that historic moment, each vintage produced under our name has been a celebration of our passion for Champagne vines, our respect for the terroir and our commitment to quality. Our first press and our first bottle are not only milestones in the history of our vineyard, but also the foundations on which we have built our reputation for finesse, elegance and excellence.

Expansion et innovation

The end of the 90s represents a crucial chapter in the history of Champagne Pierre Launay, marked by the entry of the founder's sons into the family business. Their arrival breathed new energy and brought innovative perspectives, fundamental for the development and expansion of our vineyard in Champagne. Thanks to their vision and dedication, new plots were acquired, allowing us to significantly increase the size of our winery.

This period of expansion has not only increased our production capacity, but also strengthened our position in the prestigious champagne vineyard landscape. The addition of these new plots has enriched the diversity of our vintages, each reflecting the unique characteristics of its terroir. The innovations brought by the new generation have not only respected the traditions established by their father, but also transcended them, integrating modern techniques and sustainable approaches in viticulture and winemaking.

From local sales to internationalization

Sales from our Champagne vineyard, initially concentrated in the region, gradually expanded to the national level. From 2005, a new horizon opened up with the development of our international sales. We started in Belgium before conquering other markets, including Japan and the United States.

Today, our objective is clear: to produce environmentally friendly champagne while remaining faithful to our status as a harvester-handler. From the cultivation of each champagne vine to bottling, each step is carried out with the greatest care.
